The LIS Introductory Summer Workshop

The LIS Introductory Summer Workshop, held in Luxembourg, is a one-week intensive course designed to introduce researchers in the social sciences to comparative research on income distribution, employment and social policy, using the Luxembourg Income Study Database (LIS) and the Luxembourg Wealth Study Database (LWS).

  • The workshop format includes a mix of lectures on comparative research, laboratory sessions and individual one-on-one advisory sessions. The 2019 programme is available here.

  • Workshop faculty includes the LIS Directors, Janet Gornick and Daniele Checchi, the LIS staff and guest lecturers.
  • Winners of the annual Aldi Hagenaars Memorial Award will present their papers.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be fully trained to use the databases independently and will have had the opportunity to work and be advised on their own project.

Country and Regional Workshops

LIS conducts one- and two-day workshops outside Luxembourg, upon request. Such workshops may be arranged for participants at a particular research center, for users or potential users in a particular country, or to attract users for a geographic region. If interested, please email
