2017 LIS/LWS User Conference

LIS: Cross-National Data Center in Luxembourg has been providing data on income and wealth for comparative research since 1983. Over the years, Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) or Luxembourg Wealth Study (LWS) have made possible hundreds of publications, including many articles in top journals. This long lasting activity would have not been possible without the users’ community.

In order to strengthen this community by favouring exchanges of ideas on research strategies, LIS organizes the first LIS/LWS Users Conference, giving researchers the opportunity to present papers based on our databases.

We are interested in receiving papers on different topics that can be studied using our databases, from inequality and poverty to labour market participation, from saving patterns to class composition. Papers with cross-comparative perspective or an overview over time are particularly welcomed.

The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars using the LIS/LWS datasets and to foster a dialogue between users and the core team/discussants. The conference will include in the last session a round table intended to discuss recent developments as well as potential ones in the data harmonization process, documentation of the micro and macrodata and communication with the users (through our new METIS interactive platform), where feedbacks from researchers will be highly appreciated.

The conference will be organized on 27-28 April 2017 in the Belval campus (Esch-sur-Alzette) where are also located the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education (FLSHASE) and LISER that are our cosponsoring partners. The belval Campus situated in the city of Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg) is also the new home of LIS since June 2015.

The participation to the conference is free of costs (no conference fee). The accommodation for one night and meals (lunches and the conference dinner) will be offered by the sponsoring institutions.

Please send your paper or extended abstract using LIS/LWS by 01 February 2017 to In case of submitting just an abstract the final deadline for submitting the complete paper is 01 April 2017.

The papers will be selected by a Scientific Committee that includes: Louis Chauvel (University of Luxembourg), Daniele Checchi (University of Milano & LIS), Conchita D’Ambrosio (University of Luxembourg), Janet Gornick (The City University of New York (CUNY) & LIS), Markus Jäntti (Swedish Institute for Social Research – SOFI), Aline Muller (LISER), Carmen Petrovici (LIS), Eva Sierminska (LISER), and Philippe Van Kerm (LISER). The selected participants will be informed by 15 February 2017.
