Press release – Signing of an agreement between the Luxembourg Cooperation and LIS (11.12.2019)

Communicated by: Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs / Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action / STATEC / Luxembourg Income Study (LIS)

Paulette Lenert, Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Action and François Bourguignon, President of LIS: Cross-National Data Center in Luxembourg, have signed an agreement aimed at provision of unlimited access to LIS data to a large part of the United Nations agencies. As part of its overall strategy, the collection and dissemination of relevant data for sustainable development is a priority for the Luxembourg Cooperation.

LIS is a transnational data center located in Luxembourg serving a global community of researchers, educators and policymakers. It acquires data on the income, wealth, employment and demographics of many countries and harmonizes them to allow cross-country comparisons and make them publicly available through databases.

These data are useful for several UN agencies, and in particular for monitoring Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 10 (SDGs) on poverty and inequality. In particular, they make it possible to study trends and results in these areas. LIS has already collaborated with UN agencies UNDP, UNICEF, UN-Women, UNRISD and UN DESA.

The contribution of the Luxembourg Cooperation amounts to € 150,000 over a period of 5 years (2020-24).

The announcement of UN access to the LIS Data, is available here .
