Workshop Format

For 30 years, LIS has organized the LIS Introductory Summer Workshop, held in Luxembourg, in order to ease the access to data on inequality.

In 2020, for the second time, LIS, the University of Luxembourg and LISER will jointly organize and teach the LIS Summer workshop. This workshop, taught in English, is a one-week intensive course designed to introduce researchers in the social sciences to comparative research on income and wealth distribution, employment and social policy, using the harmonised Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) and the Luxembourg Wealth Study (LWS) Databases.

Attendees will be trained to use both databases independently and will have the opportunity to:

  • Acquire advanced knowledge about methods used in inequality research
  • Gain skills related to the study of comparative inequality
  • Learn in detail about the LIS and LWS data and develop ties with LIS’ large international network

Programme

The programme of the workshop will closely follow the structure of the 2019 workshop, with the contribution of Professor Philippe Van Kerm (LISER, and University of Luxembourg), and Professor Louis Chauvel (University of Luxembourg). In addition, there will be external speaker(s) on different topics.

The 2019 programme is available here.

  Important:

  • For European PhD Students in social sciences and economics, two ECTS will be granted, based on participants’ active attendance to the workshop. One additional ECTS is granted for a short paper/essay evaluated by the committee (including Professors Chauvel, van Kerm, and Checchi).
  • The lab sessions will be taught mainly using Stata , limited help could be provided for R. Each attendee is requested to bring his/her own laptop with Stata installed for the usage during the lab sessions.
