LIS seeks applications for 2 positions (2-year contracts)

#1. Microdata Expert supporting STATEC

Your mission

The position involves supporting the National Statistical Office of Luxembourg (STATEC) in producing the national EU-SILC data and using the EU-SILC data for research on diverse socio-economic outcomes. Opportunities for carrying out research projects using the LIS data are available if desired.

Your profile

  • The successful candidate will have a MA in statistics, sociology, economics, demography, or another social science. Familiarity with the EU-SILC data and the commonly agreed EU indicators is a strong asset.
  • Extensive experience with microdata using standard statistical software (preferably SAS) is required, as is attention to detail.
  • Command of spoken French is required. Luxembourgish is an asset.

#2. Microdata Expert joining the LIS Team

Your mission

The position involves joining the LIS data team in producing harmonized datasets. This includes evaluating the original datasets structure and quality (possibly working with data providers), harmonizing original variables, documenting harmonization methods and dataset specificities, assisting and instructing users.

Your profile

  • The successful candidate will have a BA or a MA in statistics, sociology, economics, demography, or another social science.
  • Extensive experience working with large micro datasets.
  • Knowledge of STATA is required; knowledge of SAS and/or R is an asset, as is experience working with the LIS data.
  • Excellent command of English is required, other languages are an asset.
  • Strong quantitative skills, abilities to pay attention to detail and to work closely within a team in a cooperative way.
