Guatemala – Revision of Two Datasets in the LIS Database

As announced last June at the moment of the release of the newer datasets for Guatemala, LIS has carried out a revision of the previous dataset based on the same survey (the National Survey of Living Conditions, ENCOVI, carried out by National Institute for Statistics, INE), GT06 (Wave VII), where non-monetary incomes and consumption variables were considerably affected.

At the same time, an important revision of the GT14 dataset was also carried out in order to systematically include all non-monetary items (consumption from own production, goods and services taken from own business, as well as in-kind gifts and donations received) that had been previously left out from both income and consumption variables; the impact on the distribution of overall DHI is substantial.

It should be noted that, whereas GT06 and GT14 now consistently include all sources of non-monetary income, GT11 only includes in-kind benefits from the employer; this difference (due to a different dissemination policy from the side of the data provider) creates a serious inconsistency in the time series and users should be very cautious when comparing over time results based on total household disposable income, DHI (such as the Key Figures).

New Datasets from Guatemala Added to the LIS Database

Two new datasets from Guatemala, GT11 (WaveVIII) and GT14 (WaveIX) have been added to the LIS Database.

The datasets are based 2011 and 2014 waves of the National Survey of Living Conditions (ENCOVI) carried out by National Institute for Statistics / Instituto Nacional de Estadistica (INE).

The consistency revision of the earlier LIS dataset based on the same survey (GT06) will be part of the next data release.

Slovakia – New Country in LWS

We are delighted to announce that we have acquired wealth microdata from Slovakia. As of today, two new datasets SK10 (WaveVIII) and SK14 (WaveIX) have been added to the LWS Database.

The datasets are based respectively on the first and second waves of the Slovak Household and Finance Consumption Survey (HFCS) carried out by the National Bank of Slovakia and co-ordinated by the European Central Bank (ECB).

Canada 1999 Back in LWS

With a view to create longer time-series in the LWS Database, one old data point has been added to the Canadian series: CA99 (WaveV).

The dataset is based on the 1999 wave of the Survey of Financial Securities (SFS) carried out by Statistics Canada.

Greece 2014 Added to the LWS Database

One new dataset from Greece, GR14 (Wave IX) has been added to the LWS Database.

The dataset is based on the second wave of the Greek Household and Finance Consumption Survey (HFCS) carried out by the National Bank of Greece and co-ordinated by the European Central Bank (ECB).

In addition to releasing this Wave IX dataset, the previous LWS dataset based on the same source (GR09) has been revised for consistency.

Slovenia – New Country in LWS

We are delighted to announce that we have acquired wealth microdata from Slovenia. As of today, one new dataset SI14 (WaveIX) has been added to the LWS Database.

The dataset is based on the second wave of the Slovenian Household and Finance Consumption Survey (HFCS) carried out by the National Bank of Slovenia and co-ordinated by the European Central Bank (ECB).

Please note that the data from the first wave of the same survey was not intended to be representative at the national level and was hence not considered for inclusion in LWS.

New Austrian Datasets Added to the LIS Database

Three new datasets from Austria, AT07 (Wave VII), AT10 (Wave VIII) and AT13 (Wave IX) have been added to the LIS Database.

The datasets are based on the 2008, 2011 and 2014 waves of the Austrian Survey on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC), carried out by Statistics Austria.

In addition, four previous datasets for Austria (AT04, AT00, AT97 and AT94) have been revised for consistency.

New Swiss Datasets Added to the LIS Database

New datasets from Switzerland, CH07 (Wave VII), CH10 (Wave VIII) and CH13 (Wave IX) have been added to the LIS Database.

The datasets are based on the 2008, 2011 and 2014 waves of the Swiss Survey on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC), carried out by Swiss Federal Statistical Office.

In addition, four previous datasets for Austria (CH04, CH02, CH00 and CH92) have been revised for consistency.

Slovakia 2013 Added to the LIS Database

One new dataset from Slovakia, SK13, (WaveIX), has been added to the LIS Database.

The dataset is derived from the 2014 wave of the Survey on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) carried out by Statistical Office of Slovakia (ŠÚ SR).

In addition, the entire LIS series for Slovakia (SK10, SK07, SK04, SK96 and SK92) has been revised for consistency.

Italy 2014 Added to both LIS and LWS Databases

One new dataset from Italy, IT14 (Wave IX) has been added to both the LIS and LWS Databases.

The dataset is derived from the 2014 wave of the Survey of Household Income and Wealth (SHIW), carried out by the Bank of Italy.

Note that the SHIW data are used for the creation of the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) data of the European Central Bank (ECB); however LIS has used the original SHIW data to create the LWS dataset.

In addition to those new datasets, three previous datasets based on the same survey (IT08 and IT10 for LIS and IT10 for LWS) have been revised both for consistency and to take into account a revised weight based on the latest population composition estimates form ISTAT.
