Germany – annualisation of the LIS series from 2000

Continuing on the effort to annualise the German LIS series, seven additional data points based on the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) carried out by German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) have been added to the LIS Database (DE14, DE12, DE09, DE08, DE05, DE03 and DE02).

With this addition, the German LIS series is now completely annual starting from the year 2000. Further efforts in the annualisation of the first part of the series will continue throughout the year.

Hungary – HU15 added to LIS and major update of the whole series

One new dataset from Hungary, HU15 (Wave X) has been added to the LIS Database. The dataset is based on the 2015 wave of the Tárki Household Monitor Survey carried out by Tárki Social Research Centre.

In addition, the whole LIS series for Hungary has undergone a substantial revision to ensure a better overtime comparability, especially in what concerns the way the imputation of missing income data has been handled. While total disposable income has changed to a limited extent (implying some relatively minor changes to the LIS Key Figures), most income subcomponents have been substantially affected by the revision and are now fully comparable.

Germany – 8 New Data Points and a Full Re-Harmonisation of the GSOEP Series

The German LIS series has been substantially expanded based on the latest available wave (Wave BG, #33, 2016) of the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) carried out by German Institute for Economic Research (DIW).

For consistency, all LIS data points have been updated to be in line with this latest data release by DIW. The LIS Database now includes 8 more data points: DE15, DE11, DE06, DE01, DE98, DE95, DE91 and DE87.

China – CN13 Added to LIS and a Major Update of CN02

One new dataset from China, CN13 (Wave IX) has been added to the LIS Database. The dataset is based on the fifth wave (CHIP2013) of the China Household Income Survey (CHIP) carried out by Chinese Institute for Income Distribution (CIID) with assistance from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

CN13 dataset covers three subsamples (rural, urban, and rural to urban migrants), the full integration of the income and expenditure variables in this wave, has allowed for more consistent harmonisation of the dataset.
The CN02 dataset has undergone a substantial revision to comply as much as possible with the latest wave, and in order to achieve better comparability between the 3 subsamples.

Main revisions for CN02 include:

  • Updating the weight variables to improve the representation of the 3 subsamples
  • Correcting an error in the individual labour income for the rural sub-sample
  • Revising/updating the variables to be more consistent across the 3 sub-samples

Paraguay – Four New Datasets in LIS

Four new datasets from Paraguay, PY16 (Wave X), PY07 (Wave VII), PY04 (Wave VI) and PY00 (Wave V), have been added to the LIS Database.

These datasets are based on the Continuous Household Survey (EPH) carried out by Directorate-General of Statistics, Surveys and the Census (DGEEC).

In addition to releasing these new datasets, the other LIS datasets based on the same survey, namely PY13 and PY10, have been revised for consistency.

Taiwan – One New Dataset in LIS

One new dataset from Taiwan, TW16 (Wave X) has been added to the LIS Database. This dataset is based on the Survey of Family Income and Expenditure, Taiwan Area carried out by Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).

In addition to releasing this wave X dataset, three previous datasets based on the same survey, namely TW13, TW10 and TW07, have been revised for consistency.

Germany – New Country in LWS

Three new datasets from Germany, DE02 (Wave V), DE07 (Wave VII) and DE12 (Wave IX) have been added to the LWS Database.
The datasets are based on the wealth module included in the 2002 (19/S), 2007 (24/X) and 2012 (29/BC) waves of the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP) carried out by German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), the same survey included in the LIS database.

Due to the different convention for naming datasets in LIS and LWS (whereby in LIS they follow the income reference year and in LWS the wealth reference year), those datasets correspond respectively to DE01, DE06 and DE11 in LIS

United States – One New Dataset in LWS

One new dataset from United States, US16 (Wave X) has been added to the LWS database. This dataset is based on the 2016 wave of the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) carried out by Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Uruguay – A New Dataset Added to the LIS Database

One new dataset from Uruguay, UY16 (Wave X) has been added to the LIS Database.

The dataset is based on the 2016 wave of the Continuous Household Survey (ECH) carried out by National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In addition, the earlier datasets based on the same survey (UY07, UY10 and UY13) were substantially revised for consistency: the inclusion of some additional non-monetary transfers and family allowances, and the refinement of wage income has led to some changes in the Key Figures.
